Why he might be annoying:

He was a lawyer.
Although not Samoan, he is forever remembered as a creepy fat Samoan named Doctor Gonzo.
He got angry at Hunter for portraying him as a Samoan.
He wanted a co-author credit in Hunter's book, but wasn't given it.
He abused drugs and food.
He made many enemies.

Why he might not be annoying:

He challenged the system, by fighting racism and defending Chicano rights activists.
He was honorably discharged from the Air Force and for sometime worked as missionary in Panama.
He was a really good friend of Hunter S. Thompson.
His writings are now considered influential works in Latin-American/Chicano literature.
