He was pied while giving a speech at Earlham College.
He was one of several conservatives disappointed by Harriet Miers’ Supreme Court nomination.

He is regarded to be one of the key minds behind the Republicans’ famed sweep of Congress (1994).
He openly criticized Donald Rumsfeld’s handling of the war in Iraq.
He graduated Harvard with a Ph.D. in political science.
He was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard’s Kennedy Law School.
Life Magazine named him as one of their ’50 Most Influential Baby Boomers.’
