Politician
    (July 3, 1909-February 2, 2008)
Served as Secretary of Agriculture (1971-76) under Presidents Nixon and Ford
Commenting on the Pope's opposition to birth control, he adopted a broad Italian accent and said, 'He no play-a da game, he no make-a da rules' (1976).
Asked why the Republican Party had trouble attracting black voters, he said, 'I'll tell you what coloreds want. It's three things. First a tight pussy. Second, loose shoes. And third, a warm place to shit.' (1976)
He pled guilty to tax evasion and served 30 days in jail (1981).
He was valedictorian of his high school (However, it was a class of only seven).
He was the first Secretary of Agriculture in a quarter century to receive the American Farm Bureau's Award for Distinguished Service to Agriculture.
After his remarks about blacks, newspapers went through amusing contortions to explain why Butz was in trouble without using 'obscene' language.
He apologized for his remarks and resigned from the cabinet.
