The Resume

    (October 27, 1908-June 19, 1984)
    Born in Brooklyn, New York
    Birth name was Lena Krassner
    Married to Jackson Pollock
    Abstract Impressionist
Noted works included 'Prophecy,' the 'Little Image' series, the 'Earth Green' series and the 'Night Journey' series

Why she might be annoying:

She gave up painting for three years to assume the role of a traditional wife.
She ignored Pollock's ongoing affair with patron Peggy Guggenheim.
She cut up many of her paintings to create collages and discarded others, with the result that her surviving body of work is relatively small.
For most of her life, she was overshadowed by Pollock.
Even in death, she deferred to Pollock, with his grave being marked by a much larger stone than hers.

Why she might not be annoying:

Her teacher, Hans Hoffman, said of her work, 'This is so good, you would not know it was painted by a woman.' (Nice backhanded compliment.)
Her critical eye was important to Pollock's work.
She said, 'Painting, for me, when it really 'happens,' is as miraculous as any natural phenomenon.'
She endowed the Pollock-Krasner Foundation to provide grants to artists demonstrating financial need and artistic merit.
In the 70s, she was recognized as an important artist in her own right.
