Why he might be annoying:

    He is remembered for being the player Tug McGraw struck out in Game 6 of the 1980 World Series, that helped the Phillies win the franchise's first pennant.
    Tug's son, Tim McGraw used the footage of him striking out at the end of his 'Live Like You Were Dying' music video.
    He initially signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Maryland on a football scholarship, before relenting and opting to sign with the Royals instead.
    In a drug scandal that nearly derailed his career, he and three teammates pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of attempting to purchase cocaine (1983).
    He served 81 days in jail as a result, and was one of the first major league players to be incarcerated during his playing career.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a reliable leadoff hitter.
    He was a member of the first World Series championship team in Royals history (1985).
    He was the first switch hitter since Mickey Mantle to win the American League batting title.
    He turned his life around following his sentence and became a valuable mentor in the Royals clubhouse.
    He holds a Major League record (as of 2020) for most inside the park home runs during his career.
