(1977)
    Appeared on Broadway in 'The Caine Mutiny Court Martial' (1954) and 'Too Late the Phalarope' (1956)

Why he might be annoying:

    He got his start acting when he was told that with his looks he could make money simply standing on a Broadway stage.
    He replaced Vincent Price in the title role in the radio version of 'The Saint,' but lasted just two episodes before the series went on hiatus, only to return with Price again (1950).
    He was married and divorced three times.

    He was a versatile character actor who appeared in over 100 films.
    He and Bette Davis toured the US performing readings of the poetry of Carl Sandburg.
    He had a son, John, with a mental disability and became an advocate for the mentally disabled.
