She never guessed that Oscar Wilde was cheating on her with men, even though he was flamboyant and indiscreet about it.
She and Wilde named one of their sons 'Vyvyan.'

She was strong and independent.
She was fluent in several languages.
She was heartbroken when she found out the truth about her husband.
She was publicly humiliated when Wilde was tried and imprisoned for homosexuality.
She eventually left the country to escape the shame.
Despite their problems, she went to visit Wilde in prison when his mother died.
She injured herself badly in a fall down the stairs, and died during back surgery at age 39.
