Why she might be annoying:

She was a tomboy.
She wore a chartreuse skating outfit in the Grenoble France Olympics, to get the crowd on her side, it was the same color used by a famed champagne maker in that region.

Why she might not be annoying:

The U.S. figure skaters and their coaches lost their lives in a plane crash on their way to the world championships (February, 1961).
It was predicted it would take at least a decade for the U.S. team to be competitive, however three years later she came in 6th in the Olympics, and in 1968 won the Gold.
She is the first figure skater to perform at the White House.
She spoke openly about her breast cancer, inspiring woman to check their health (February 1998).
Her charities include Osteoporosis, March of Dimes, Diabetes, American Cancer Society and the Kidney Foundation.
