    Working for the Food Ministry during WWII, he suggested solving the problems of food shortages and of blood donations outstripping storage capacity simultaneously by using the excess blood to make black puddings.
    He waved his arms about a lot when he talked.
    He refused to wear a white doctor's coat for the 'She Blinded Me With Science' video because he was paranoid about being arrested for impersonating a physician.
    After the success of 'She Blinded Me With Science,' he was constantly bugged by people coming up and yelling 'Science!' at him.
    He received an award as most promising male newcomer to television (1975).
    He attributed his TV success to being too old to be self-conscious.
    When 'New Scientist' asked readers to name the best-known scientist of all time, he placed third, behind Newton and Einstein (1975).
    He was injured in a robbery at his home as he tried to club the intruder with his cane.
