She had a longstanding feud with rival columnist Hedda Hopper.
She would trash celebrities in print who didn't kiss her butt.
She had a crow-like voice.
She spearheaded the effort to discredit Orson Welles because of his unflattering portrayal of her boss, William Randolph Hearst, in 'Citizen Kane.'
Some believe Hearst awarded her a lifetime column because she kept quiet about his involvement in a murder.

She was one of the most feared people in Hollywood.
Her column had the power to make or break show biz careers.
Her influence helped Ronald Reagan (a friend from her hometown of Dixon, Illinois) become a star.
Her hair had a bald spot, which Hedda Hopper mocked mercilessly.
She had a knack at coming up with withering insults, such as her crack that Joan Collins 'looks like she combs her hair with an egg beater.'
