Religious Figure
    (circa 361-February 17, 440)
    Born in Hatsekats, Turkey
    Patron Saint of Armenia
    Secretary to King Khosrov III
    Chancellor to King Vramshapuh
    Invented the Armenian alphabet (406)
May have invented the Georgian alphabet as well
    Died in Vagharshapat, Armenia
There are various ways to spell his name, like Mesrob Mashtotz, for example.
His birth year was listed as either 360, 361, or 362.
Georgian historians have repeatedly denied that he invented the Georgian alphabet, but the primary reason is because they don't want to credit a non-Georgian for something important for their own culture.
He was fluent in Greek and Persian.
Inventing an alphabet specifically for the Armenian language has helped Armenians to read and write in their own language, reinforcing Armenian identity and starting Armenian literature in the process.
As a monk, he experienced constant hunger, thirst, cold weather, and poverty, wore a hair shirt, ate vegetables, and slept on the ground.
Every single town in Armenia has a street named after him.
