    (October 20, 1946- )
Wrote 'Die Kavierspielerin (1983),' 'Lust (1989),' 'Die Kinder der Toten (1997)' and 'Gier (2000)'
Laureate of the 2004 Nobel Prize for Literature
From 1974 to 1991, she was a member of the (Stalinist) Austrian Communist Party (KPÖ).
Although married, she lived with her abusive, paranoiac mother until the latter died, aged 97.
She became depressed when she realized she would never fulfill her mother's aspirations and become a musical prodigy.
An anxiety disorder caused her to drop out of college; social phobia prevented her from going to Stockholm and claiming her Nobel Prize (she videotaped her acceptance speech).
Her work is aggressive in tone, especially towards her country.
    She is a virulent feminist.
She didn’t lead the musical career her mother planned; nonetheless, she graduated the Vienna Conservatory with a diploma in organ performance.
Her dominated father died in a psychiatric institution.
She became the pet peeve of Austrian far right government party (FPÖ), who called her a 'pornograph' and a 'nest fouler.' In response, she banned her plays from performance in Austria.
She transfigured her bitchy familial background into her most well-known novel, 'The Piano Teacher.'
Her writing is rich in metaphors and puns, and continues an Austrian polemical tradition. It won her many prizes.
She is very active on the Internet.
