The Resume

    (May 14, 1929-January 28, 2006)
    Born in Twickenham, United Kingdom
    Born Henry James Marris-McGee
Announcer and straight man on The Benny Hill Show (‘Yes! It’s the Benny Hill Show!’; started 1969, promoted to regular in 1975)
Films include ‘Adventures of a Taxi Driver,’ ‘Revenge of the Pink Panther,’ and ‘Carry On Emmanuelle’

Why he might be annoying:

Thanks to his mother, he came by his acting capacities honestly — though he initially stayed out of the biz.
When his father – a Rolls-Royce engineer – died, he gave up on any thought of a medical career.
As the British film industry fell on bad times in the 1970s, he, like others, ended up taking roles in several sex comedies and soft-porn features.
He was not immune to giggling fits on the set.
He spent the final six months of his life in a nursing home.

Why he might not be annoying:

Among his several uncredited roles was a tailor in ‘The Italian Job’ – where he met Hill.
Having no idea what to do after a national service stint, he would spend two years at the Italia Conti Stage Academy.
At six feet tall, he sometimes stood in sharp contrast to the 4’11 Jackie Wright.
He was the father of one girl.
His will left the bulk of his estate – including a million pounds – to his partner of more than 30 years.
