He became the official composer of Fascist Italy.

Why he might not be annoying
His mother died when he was a little boy.
His father wanted him to be a lawyer, and he had to study music secretly.
He was poor for a long time, and had to live on one plate of pasta per day.
‘Cavelleria Rusticana’ was an overnight success.
It was such a hit that people were said to have ‘Mascagnitis.’
The opera is still very popular today.
