Named Top Female Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music (1966)

Why she might be annoying:

She quipped about her earliest musical interest, ‘I could have become Bonnie Clarinet.’
’Dark Moon’ was her only song to cross over to the pop Top 40.
She left the record label she cofounded after a dispute with her partner.

Why she might not be annoying:

She began as a session guitarist for Jim Reeves and Dorsey Burnette.
She was sure ‘Dark Moon’ would be a hit that she offered to waive her royalties for a chance to record it. (She noted that the label ‘took me at my word, and I really did give up my royalties.’)
She co-founded Dolton Records, which released hit singles by the Fleetwoods and the Ventures.
She was one of the first women to become a music producer.
