Why he might be annoying:

He was born and grew up in China but is best known for his Japanese Samurai roles.
He was often typecast as the rebel or rogue Samurai.
He did not speak English and only learned it when a role needed his character to speak the language.
His nickname was 'The Wolf.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He and Akira Kurosawa became the most prominent actor-director pairing in all of Japanese cinema.
In the Japanese animated series 'Mach gogo' ('Speed Racer'), the hero was named Go Mifune; the name was chosen in tribute to Toshiro Mifune.
He was considered early on by George Lucas for the role of Obi Wan Kenobi in 'Star Wars.'
For a time, he was the most popular Japanese actor working in movies.
He is considered one the great cinematic actors.
He ranked #90, in Empire Magazine's Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time.
