TV Executive

The Resume

    (January 15, 1960- )
Born in Brooklyn, New York City, New York
CEO of Warner Brothers in Discovery Inc.
Oversees HBO, Bravo, A&E, History Channel, and Sci Fi Channel
Led the merger of Discovery and WarnerMedia into Warner Bros. Discovery (2021)

Why he might be annoying:

He is known for canceling existing projects - some on the verge of completion.
He decided to shelve the already shot ‘Batgirl’ for a tax write off, but refused to do the same for ‘The Flash’ during the fallout from Ezra Miller’s legal troubles.
‘The Flash’ made history in the wrong way as the worst performing superhero movie to that point, and one of the biggest film flops of all time.
His reputation for gutting TV networks and streaming services is so bad that he was nicknamed 'Butcher of Burbank.'
Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese had to personally intervene after he oversaw cuts to TCM, getting his assurance that he would commit to film preservation even with the cuts.
Several of his decisions pertinent to CNN have either been suspect or unwise (getting his daughter a producer job there, appointing Chris Licht to CEO who then tried to turn it into a rival to Fox News).
During the 2023 WGA-SAG strike, he said that the ongoing double strike benefitted Warners by saving the studio $100 million for the studio (while also saying he wanted to resolve the strike).
He was booed giving the commencement speech at Boston University, with some students yelling ‘pay your writers!’ (2023).
He oversaw the shift on History Channel from educational programming to reality TV.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is of Polish and Ukrainian descent.
He was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame.
His time with Discovery led to it becoming a Fortune 500 company.
He helped Oprah spearhead her fledgling network OWN.
He is active with numerous advocacy groups combating anti-semitism.
He has received multiple awards for his contributions to the media industry as well as his philanthropic work, including the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Award.
