    Played for the Cleveland Indians (1955-57) and the Minnesota Twins (1961)
    Managed the San Francisco Giants (1977-79), Baltimore Orioles (1983-85) and the Chicago Cubs (1991)
    Broadcaster for the Rochester Red Wings (1999-2009)
    Despite being a reliable player in the minors, his major league career was less than successful.
    He was fired midway through his third season as manager with both the Giants and Orioles.
    His managerial stint with the Cubs lasted only one game.
    He had six children.
    He was left handed.
    He recorded a 36 game hitting streak while playing in the Florida State League, which stood for 50 years until 2010.
    He succeeded Earl Weaver as the Orioles manager and guided them to a World Series title in his first season at the helm (1983).
    He managed Cal Ripken, Jr. in his formative years with the Orioles.
