    His affair with Brigitte Bardot during the filming of 'And God Created Woman' broke up her marriage to Roger Vadim.
    He said it was embarrassing to film love scenes with ex-wife Stephane Audrane in 'Bad Girls' (1968) -- made even more awkward because the scenes were directed by Audrane's new husband, Claude Chabrol.
    He turned down the lead role in 'Last Tango in Paris' because he did not want to do the numerous nude scenes.
    He said, 'Americans fascinate me like science fiction fascinates me. I feel as strange among them as I would among Martians.'
    His daughter Pauline died from sudden infant death syndrome (1969).
    His daughter Marie was beaten to death by her boyfriend (2003).
