Why they might be annoying:

Their early version of ‘Twist & Shout’ isn’t nearly as popular as the Beatles’ later version.
Their lack of creative control at Motown Records frustrated them, so they started their own record label.
During the 1970's, they upset longtime fans by experimenting with disco music.
Their music is often sampled in hip-hop songs.
Ronald Isley created his own ‘gangsta’ alter ego known as ‘Mr. Biggs.’
    Jasper isn't a brother (Isley), he's a brother-in-law.
They signed with Motown in 1965, then bailed on them in 1968.
When Chris, Ernie and Marvin joined the older trio in 1969, the group nicknamed themselves The Isley Brothers 3+3.
Jasper grew weary of the limelight and quit in 1987 to record gospel music.
Rudolph quit in 1989 to become a preacher.
Ronald was sentenced to 3 years and 3 million dollars for tax evasion (September 1, 2006).

Why they might not be annoying:

Their brother Vernon was killed in 1955 at age 13 in a bicycle accident less than a year after the band formed.
The Beatles heard their record 'Twist & Shout' and decided to record it themselves, scoring a #1 hit in 1963.
They recorded what may be the first funk song ever in 1964, 'Testify,' featuring a then unknown guitarist Jimi Hendrix.
'Shout,' made famous in the movie 'Animal House,' is a perennial wedding reception favorite.
They are sampled by numerous rappers, including 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., LL Cool J and Ice Cube.
They hold the record for the only music group to have a song in Billboard's Top 100 charts in 6 straight decades, 1950's-2000's.
Their all-time lineup features two generations of Isley family siblings.
