Why they might be annoying:

    People who don’t know Spanish may wonder if there was a ‘fake Madrid’ they needed to distinguish themselves from.
    Its mid-60s team was nicknamed Ye-Ye (from the ‘yeah, yeah, yeah’ chorus of ‘She Loves You’) after four members posed as the Beatles for a newspaper photo.
    A far-right faction of hard core fans, the Ultras, frequently shouted racist epithets at opposing players.
    Beckham was signed to the team largely for marketing reasons, particularly his popularity in Asia, which the team cashed in on with an 18-day tour of the Far East shortly after his signing.

    After winning the European Cup five consecutive years (1956-60), it was given permanent possession of the original cup.
    It was named Club of the Century by FIFA.
    Forbes named it the world’s most valuable sports team, worth $3.3 billion (2013).
    It was the first sports team to reach 100 million fans on Facebook (2017).
