    NL MVP with a 1.12 ERA and 13 shutouts (1968)
    Cy Young Award winner (1968 and 1970)
    Won nine Gold Glove Awards
    Elected to the Hall of Fame (1981)

Why he might be annoying:

    He went by his middle name.
    His nickname was 'Hoot.'
    He was known for intimidating batters.
    He was famous for throwing beanballs hitting 102 batters in his career.
    The year he had a 1.12 ERA, he still managed to lose 9 games.
    When Steve Carlton was being introduced at his Hall of Fame induction, Carlton was described as 'having the best slider in major league history.' Gibson pushed his way up to the microphone and said 'Correction. The best left handed slider.'
    When Gibson was having a bad outing, catcher Tim McCarver came up to the mound to give him a pep talk. As soon as he reached the mound, Gibson said 'Get your ass back in the catcher's box, McCarver ... the only thing you know about pitching is that you can't hit it.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He had a childhood filled with health problems, including rickets, asthma, pneumonia and a heart murmur.
    He once played basketball for the Harlem Globetrotters.
    He was one of the greatest World Series pitchers, with seven consecutive wins and 17 strikeouts in a game.
    He was only the second pitcher in baseball history to tally 3,000 career strikeouts.
    He played his entire career on the same team.
    When asked about the Pete Rose Hall of Fame controversy, he stated 'He absolutely should be in. He had an obligation to hit ... he was to hitting what Richard Nixon was to lying.'
