Although lead singer/songwriter Record left in 1988, various permutations of the group continued on the oldies circuit.
They drafted female vocalists to re-create Record's falsettos.
Thompson had to leave the group temporarily when he was jailed for selling police badges (2001).
They changed their name from Hi-Lites to Chi-Lites as a tribute to their hometown of Chicago.
They recorded both protest songs like 'Give More Power to the People' and romantic ballads like 'Oh Girl.'
In October of 1990, 'Have You Seen Her' and 'Oh Girl' both returned to the Top 10, in covers by M.C. Hammer and Paul Young, respectively.
They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame shortly before Record's death from cancer (2005).
