World Leader
    (September 28, 1841-November 24, 1929)
Published the newspapers Le Travail, Le Matin and La Justice
Prime Minister of France (1906-1909, 1917-1920)
He looked like a French walrus.
He espoused his personal views through his newspapers.
His newspapers were frequently seized by French authorities.
He was fined and imprisoned for participating in a duel.
Though he was part of the extreme left when he ran a newspaper, he was an enemy of socialist, trade unions and pacifists when he was in office.
He accused any politician calling for peace of treason.
As a framer of the Treaty of Versailles, he was a complete hard-ass on Germany and made them give in to many humiliating demands.
Many believe this created sympathy for Germany and lead to the Second World War.
He said, 'Mr. Wilson bores me with his Fourteen Points. Why, Almighty God has only Ten Commandments!'
After he lost his bid for the French presidency, he said the office was 'as superfluous as a prostate gland' and retired from politics a bitter man.
He traveled to the United States and loved living there so much that he almost stayed.
He was nicknamed 'Le Tigre' (The Tiger) for his aggressive and confrontational debating style.
He argued for the separation of church and state.
His newspaper L'Aurore ran the famous 'J'accuse' article on its front page, which correctly accused French authorities of anti-Semitism in the Alfred Dreyfus affair.
He was shot near his heart by an anarchist outside of the Versailles conference. When the would-be assassin was caught and the death penalty was called for, he instead recommended an eight year sentence in a prison 'with intensive training in a shooting gallery.'
He said, 'Military justice is to justice what military music is to music.'
