Musician
    Probably fictitious
Rumored to have replaced Paul McCartney during the 'Paul is Dead' hoax
The rumor began when DJ Russ Gibbs reported that Paul McCartney died in a car accident.
According to the rumor, he won a Paul McCartney look alike contest.
He has been known by both 'William Campbell' and 'William Shears.'
The earliest sign of the rumor is in the lyrics of 'Yesterday,' '"I believe in yesterday, suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be, there's a shadow hanging over me. Yesterday came suddenly.'
On the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover, the Hindu god Shiva is pointing up at Paul (Shiva is the destroyer).
On the back cover of Sgt. Pepper, Paul is the only one facing backwards.
Paul introduces Billy Shears in Sgt Peppers, causing many to believe that Paul has been replaced.
If you play the chant backwards at the end of 'I Am the Walrus,' it is believed that you here 'Paul is Dead, Paul is Dead.'
Some believe that at the end of 'Strawberry Fields Forever,' John Lennon says 'I buried Paul.'
There was a rumor that the 'Abbey Road' cover was the Beatles walking to Paul's funeral.
There are many clues in Beatles album covers and lyrics that Paul is dead.
Many notice the different stylings of Paul McCartney during the earlier and later Beatles recordings.
The Beatles had a good sense of humor about this.
On Saturday Night Live, Chris Farley was interviewing Paul, and asked him 'Remember when you were in the Beatles and you were supposed to be dead, and there were all these clues and everything and everyone thought you were dead... That was a hoax, right?'
Paul responded to Chris 'Yeah, I wasn't really dead.'
