The Resume

    (November 19, 1905-November 25, 1991)
Born in New York City, New York
    Birth name was Eleanor Zellman
Provided voice work for Disney's 'Cinderella' and 'Sleeping Beauty'
Made TV guest spots on episodes of 'Leave it to Beaver,' 'I Love Lucy,' 'Crossroads,' 'The People's Choice,' 'Richard Diamond,' 'Private Detective,' 'Perry Mason,' 'Dennis the Menace,' 'Hazel,' 'Pete and Gladys,' 'The Real McCoys,' 'The Twilight Zone,' 'Beverly Hillbillies,' and 'The Dick Van Dyke Show'
Provided the voice for Madame Leota in the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland/Disney World
Had a recurring role on 'Green Acres' as Eunice Douglas

Why she might be annoying:

She was typecast as matriarchal 'rich bitches.'
She portrayed Eddie Albert's mom on 'Green Acres' despite being only a year older than him.
Her trademark was her stern, almost maniacal-sounding, voice.
Her decades long career has been eclipsed by the fame she won for doing Disney voice work; portraying not one, but two, of Disney's most evil characters (Lady Tremaine and Maleficent).
She trained for a stage career but only found success doing radio voiceovers, and eventually television appearances.
She did live in-costume modeling for both villains during production, providing the animators with the main source for their characters' movements/facial expressions.

Why she might not be annoying:

The chilling crack in her voice was actually the outcome of a Tuberculosis case she had as a child.
She even initially turned down the role of Maleficent due to her fear that it would exacerbate the case of TB she was currently experiencing.
Many tourists going through the Disney Haunted Mansion attraction tend to yell 'hey, she sounds like the Wicked Stepmother/Maleficent!' when they pass Madame Leota's crystal ball.
Critics have been known to prefer her portrayal of Maleficent over Angelina Jolie's version.
'Sleeping Beauty' was a flop on its release and she died before it really gained a popular audience.
She had a hilarious recurring role on 'Beverly Hillbillies' as Jethro's snobbish teacher.
    She died of respiratory failure.
She performed with George M. Cohan on the vaudevillian stage.
Mary Costa, who voiced Princess Aurora in 'Beauty,' said of her: 'she was a petite woman but [when she spoke] she sounded like she was nine feet tall!'
