He recorded the soundtrack for 'Porky's Revenge.'
He alienated many fans of his roots-rock sound by recording two synthesizer-heavy albums with Jeff Lynne.
'I Hear You Knocking' topped the British charts for six weeks, went Top Five in the US and was described by John Lennon in a 'Rolling Stone' interview as his favorite new record.
After 'Knocking' became a hit, he drove his new car to the garage where he used to work as a mechanic and whose owner had predicted he would come crawling back.
He produced records by the Stray Cats, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, k.d. lang and the Everly Brothers.
Trouser Press asked, 'Can traditional rock n roll survive in the modern world? As long as Dave Edmunds is around, the answer will be yes.'
