    Appeared in the films 'A Little Night Music' (1977), 'The Four Seasons' (1981), 'Never Talk To Strangers' (1995), 'Thirteen Days' (2000), 'About Schmidt' (2002) and 'Flags of Our Fathers' (2006)
    Had recurring roles in Murder She Wrote, Damages and 'Brotherhood'
    He never attended plays growing up.
    When he was cast in his first major role, as Ensign Pulver in 'Mr. Roberts,' 'I was so stupid I nearly turned it down. I thought it couldn't be a good role, it was only an ensign. Somebody finally said to me, 'You schmuck, Jack Lemmon won an Oscar playing that part.''
    He has been married three times, divorced twice.
    He said that when a couple left in the middle of a one man show he was doing, 'It was all I could do to not scream at them, 'Sit the fuck down!''
    He won a Tony for 'Sweeney Todd' and was nominated for 'Applause' and 'A Little Night Music.'
    During the run of 'Applause,' he had an affair with star Lauren Bacall; when an interviewer later asked if he was worried about following in Humphrey Bogart's footsteps, he quipped, 'It wasn't his footsteps I was worried about.'
    He was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame (2004).
    He said, 'I like to be active. I'll go anywhere. I still get a real charge out of acting.'
