    (November 12, 1817-May 29, 1892)
    Born in Tehran, Iran
Birth name was Mirza Iusayn-Ali Nuri
    Founder of the Baha'i faith
Claimed to be 'He whom God shall make manifest' as predicted by the earlier Babi movement
    Former Muslim
Authored numerous religious works, including the 'Mother Book' of Baha'i teachings, 'Kitab-i-Aqdas'
The Baha'i faith has 5 million followers
Although Baha'i preaches monogamy, he had three wives simultaneously.
His second wife was his first cousin.
He claimed to be the fulfilment of messianic prophecies in Judaism, Christianity, Sunni and Shia Islam and Zoroastrianism.
He sent letters to the world's leaders asking them to accept his revelation, with no result.
His followers object to public displays of his photo (but they are more peaceful about it than Muslims).
He was repeatedly imprisoned and exiled for his religious beliefs by authorities in Persia and the Ottoman Empire.
His left hand shook for the rest of his life after he survived a poisoning attempt by a rival messianic claimant.
His writings emphasized the equality of all people and the need to eliminate prejudice.
