    (November 18, 1882-April 28, 1973)
Wrote 'Man and the State,' 'The Degrees of Knowledge,' 'Natural Law: Reflections on Theory and Practice,' 'Person and the Common Good' and 'Education at the Crossroads'
In 1901, he and his future wife, Raissa Oumansof, vowed to commit suicide in one year if they did find a meaning to life.
They gave up all thoughts of suicide after reading the works of Henri Bergson.
They later abandoned Bergson in favor of Catholicism and St. Thomas Aquinas.
He believed that Aquinas was right on just about everything and that the majority of subsequent philosophy was in error because it gave priority to epistemology rather than metaphysics.
Although he was a social crusader, he would abandon a cause if the Catholic Church spoke out against it.
Following Raissa's death, he moved in with a religious order known as 'The Little Brothers of Jesus.'
He served in the first World War.
Despite the fact that he had a conservative religious outlook, he supported liberal politics and saw them as being the natural outgrowth of his faith.
Although he lived in the U.S. during World War II, he recorded broadcasts for Vichy France and took part in the U.S. program, 'The Voice of America.'
He served as the French ambassador to the Vatican from 1944-1948.
He worked alongside Eleanor Roosevelt in drafting the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
He and Raissa were married for 57 years until her death.
