    (August 2, 1951-May 12, 1989)
    Born in Carolina, Puerto Rico
Professional boxer, best known for being the first man to beat Roberto Duran professionally
    WBC Lightweight champion (May 8,1976-January 21, 1978)
Professional record of 58-5 with thirty-three knockout wins and three knockout losses
Duran was reportedly running a temperature during their first fight, a De Jesus win.
Duran avenged his loss to De Jesus by knocking him out twice in their two return matches.
He wasn't big puncher with only 33 knockout wins in a sixty fight plus pro career.
Throughout his career, he used drugs starting with marijuana and was injecting himself with speedballls, a mixture of heroin and cocaine by the time his career ended.
He shot and killed an 18 year old man during a traffic dispute and was so high that he didn't realize it until he got home and his wife told him he was on the news for killing someone.
He beat Roberto Duran when other fighters were genuinely afraid to get in the ring with him.
He had a excellent chin: only Duran was ever able to actually knock him out.
Along with being the first man to beat Duran, he was the only man to knock him down besides Tommy Hearns.
He caught AIDS from his IV drug use.
While in prison, he reformed his life and became a minister, made the Puerto Rican penal systems all-star baseball team three times and was released from his lifetime sentence.
He died tragically young at the age of 37 from AIDS complications only a month after being released from prison.
