The Resume

    Resident of New Castle, Pennsylvania
29-year old New York Yankees fan
Proposed to his girlfriend at a Yankees-Red Sox game during the fifth inning (Sept. 27, 2016)
Lost the engagement ring, prompting a five-minute scramble among game attendees to recover being played out on the Stadium Jumbotron
Viral mistake was covered by The Today Show, People Magazine, Yahoo, ABC News, and The New York Post

Why he might be annoying:

He met his fiancee through an online dating site.
He recycled the tired old 'propose to your girlfriend at a ballgame' routine.
He started crying when he thought he had permanently lost the ring.
The bauble somehow ended up stuck to the cuff of his girlfriend-turned-fiancee's jeans pant-leg...
Some naysayers suggested that the ring-flap might have been a deliberate ploy to get her to say 'yes.'
And assuming that it WASN'T staged the dope's got mad luck (it only takes one scrupulous, sticky-fingered Bronxite to make off with a $3,000 rock, just saying...)
The commotion over the ring distracted from coverage of the game itself (which was a crucial one determining the Sox's chance at clinching the AL East title, which they would the following night).

Why he might not be annoying:

He had taken his girlfriend to the game as a belated birthday present.
He bought her a Derek Jeter jersey (No. 2) as a birthday gift.
He, himself, was wearing a Mariano Rivera jersey at the time of the proposal.
The ring reportedly just 'popped out' of the box as soon as it was opened.
The audience became so engrossed in the ring hunt that the ESPN announcers ended up providing a narration up until its being located (from their ecstatic response you would have thought somebody pitched a single).
His girlfriend was forgiving and a good sport about the flap and said 'yes.'
Casual observers found the moment to be wonderfully romantic.
He was probably nervous (being in a very crowded public place, proposals usually take a lot of guts as it is, etc.)
He messed up during a crucial life moment which was then played out on televisions across America (or along the East coast anyway...)
After the ring was found, announcer Paul Olden said that the incident was 'way better than the game.'
