The Resume

    (February 2, 1852-January 20, 1913)
    Born in Aguascaliente, Mexico
    Cartoonist, illustrator and engraver
Known for his calaveras (artistic representations of skulls and skeletons)

Why he might be annoying:

Many of his calaveras were intended as political satire, which is often lost on later audiences.
Of the estimated 20,000 engravings he created, only about 10% survived.
He died in poverty and was buried in a 'sixth class' grave.
Seven years later, when no one claimed his body, his remains were tossed into a common paupers' grave.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was arrested several times when his illustrations ticked off people in high places.
His images, especially 'Calavera de la Catrina' ('Calavera of the Female Dandy'), have become staples of Mexico's Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations.
He influenced Mexican muralists Diego Rivera and Jose Clemente Orozco.
Octavio Paz wrote, 'How to define his technique? A minimum of line and a maximum of expression.'
