Golfer

The Resume

    (March 3, 1920-May 28, 1994)
    Born in Fairfield, Connecticut
Won two US Opens (1952,1963) and the PGA Championship (1968)
Two-time PGA Player of the Year (1952,1963)
Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame (1982)

Why he might be annoying:

Before going pro, he worked as an accountant.
He was nicknamed 'Moose' for his size: 6 foot, 200+ pounds.
He reportedly fell asleep in the middle of an interview. (He claimed he was just resting his eyes.)
He dated Armen Boyle just three times before eloping with her the day after the Masters Tournament (1955).
He died behind the wheel of a golf cart on a course near his house.

Why he might not be annoying:

His first wife, Buttons Cosgrove, died in childbirth (1951).
He and Armen apparently found out all they needed to on those three dates, since they remained together nearly 40 years until his death.
He was known for his relaxed but powerful swing and motto 'swing easy, hit hard.'
He was the oldest player to win one of the four major championships.
Asked when he planned to retire, he replied, 'Retire from what? I already play golf and fish.'
His son Guy won the Greater Vancouver Open (1996), making them one of three father-son combos with PGA Tour wins.
