Why he might be annoying:

When choosing his tribe, he opted for youth and athleticism (while Jan appeared to favor age and wisdom). Save Ken, everyone else on the tribe was in their 20s.
He was unapologetic about that decision; in fact, he even went so far as to say he'd choose them all over again!
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry (whatever that is) from Texas A & M University.
Penny betrayed him at the very moment he needed her most, in the infamous torch-snuffing challenge (a move which branded her a traitor).
His unanimous ouster on Day 33 completed the 'mother of all Pagongings' (up to that point). Up seven members to five, his tribe was decimated while the other tribe lost no other members.

Why he might not be annoying:

He and Clay were arch-enemies through the second half of the contest.
During a slalom in which he was blindfolded, he chewed out Penny for what he thought were bad instructions ('you ran me into a tree!').
He has spent more than three decades in commercial real estate in the Dallas area.
In fact, he now has his own practice.
He has nine grandchildren by two children and three stepsons.
