She cheated on her first husband, and some of her children may not have been his.
She feuded with Napoleon, who censored her works and sent her into exile, and Talleyrand.
After she published a book featuring a heroine based on her and a female villain based on Talleyrand, Talleyrand commented 'I understand we are both in your novel, disguised as women.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She used her influence as a diplomat's wife to save a dozen people from the guillotine during the French Revolution.
She was an advocate for women's rights and the abolition of the slave trade.
When Napoleon told her women should stay out of politics, she replied, 'In a country where women have been executed, it is only natural that women should ask why.'
Lord Byron called her 'the first female writer of this, or perhaps any, age.'
