Animal
    (circa March 2007- )
    Born in Michigan
    Resided in Scottsdale, Arizona
    German Shepherd dog
Received media attention after dialing 911 during his owner's medical emergency (September 10, 2008)
His owner Joe Stalnaker was unable to live alone, suffering from random seizures after a brain injury during a military training exercise.
His barking and whimpering surprised and confused the dispatcher who answered after Buddy activated 911 on the telephone.
The dispatcher asked Buddy if a person was available to talk, unaware that Stalnaker was having a seizure.
911 dispatchers were among the many people who found the incident strange and unusual.
He was adopted at age eight weeks from Michigan-based Paws with a Cause, which trains assistance dogs.
Stalnaker trained him to press programmed phone buttons to activate 911 during a seizure.
Scottsdale's 911 system had his address flagged with a message that a service dog could activate a call in an emergency.
He activated 911 on two previous occasions when his owner was having a seizure.
His actions and significance in his owner's life did justice to his name, 'Buddy'.
