Hockey Coach

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He recorded 100+ penalty minutes six times during his career.
He was forced to end his playing career due to chronic back pain.
He landed the Thrashers head coaching position largely on the strength of the team’s ownership being too cheap to hire a quality candidate.
He named three different captains in his three seasons and elected to do a rotating captaincy amongst four players the year he was fired (and didn’t follow through with it anyway).
He posted a record of 64–169–46 in his three and a half seasons at the helm.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was born in Cincinnati when his father, Barry Beatty was playing with the IHL’s Cincinnati Mohawks.
He made the Canucks roster at the age of 18.
He, along with Thomas Gradin and Stan Smyl established themselves as a formidable offensive line during his tenure with the Canucks.
He was a member of the Canucks team that made the franchise’s first appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals (1982).
He was an advocate for diabetes research, after he was diagnosed with the condition during the 1982-83 season.
He was an accomplished coach in the minor leagues, which also helped him land the Thrashers head coaching job.
