    As a teen, he was shy, introverted and self-conscious about his lanky appearance.
    At the start of World War I, he changed his name to make it less Germanic.
    His first attempt to sell dance lessons through the mail, using a kinetoscope, failed because the machines kept breaking down.
    He appeared on the disco show 'Dance Fever.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    While studying at Georgia Tech, he was such a successful dance instructor that he was profiled in a Forbes article titled 'This College Student Earns $15,000 A Year.'
    He drew on his draftsman background to draw footprint diagrams of dance steps that he successfully sold through the mail.
    Arthur Murray Dance Studios are the second-oldest franchised company in the US.
    He was married to Kathryn for 66 years until his death.
    He was immortalized in the Johnny Mercer song 'Arthur Murray Taught Me Dancing in a Hurry.'
