    (941-October 1, 959)
    12th King of England (Wessex line-November 23, 955-October 1, 959)
Son of Edmund I and Elfgiva
    Also known as 'Eadwig'
    Fought over Northumbria and Mercia
He was absent from an official meeting of nobles and dignitaries, which he was supposed to attend.
When Bishop Dunstan went to look for him, he found Edwy fornicating with the daughter of a nobleman.
He exiled Dunstan out of spite after this affair.
His conflict with Dunstan (who would later become the Archbishop of Canterbury) set off a feud with the Church, a terrible situation for a king.
The feudal lords of Mercia and Northumbria switched their loyalty from him to Edgar, his own brother, and went to war with him.
His marriage to Elgiva was annulled.
He accepted defeat at Gloucester and ceded Northumbria and Mercia to his brother to avoid a civil war.
    He died at eighteen.
