The Resume

    (December 20, 1932-November 9, 2017)
    Born in Denison, Texas
Portrayed Higgins (Sergeant Major Jonathan Quayle Higgins III) in Magnum, P.I. (1980-88)
Appeared in 'What's Up Doc?' (1972), 'Paper Moon' (1973), 'Blazing Saddles' (1974), 'Chinatown' (1974), 'At Long Last Love' (1975), 'Mel Brooks' History of the World, Part I' (1981) and 'A Very Brady Sequel' (1996)

Why he might be annoying:

He said, 'One of my most expensive habits is caviar.'
He also played Higgins on episodes of Simon & Simon, Murder She Wrote and Quantum Leap.
He was falsely reported dead due to confusion with a different John Hillerman (1996).

Why he might not be annoying:

He said of his move from theater to TV, 'I am not one of those who yearn to play Hamlet. Higgins will do.'
Co-star Tom Selleck said, 'John would like you to believe he's aloof and unapproachable, but in reality, he's a kind and friendly man.'
He nailed Higgins' British accent so perfectly, he received a fan letter from a member of the House of Lords declaring, 'You are a credit to the Empire.'
