Full name is Baron Roman Nicholaus Maximilian von Ungern-Sternberg
Raised in Järvakandi, Estonia
Set up a military presence in the Russian Far East with Grigori Semenov (February 1917)
Wanted to restore the Qing Dynasty and used it to dominate all of the Far East
Dictator of Mongolia (March 13, 1921-August 21, 1921)
Defeated by invading Bolsheviks
Executed by Mongolian nationalists with the aid of the Red Army
Why he might be annoying
He was a strong believer in absolute monarchy because he thought that it protected Western civilization from corruption and destruction.
He was completely obsessed with Far Eastern mysticism up to the point that he even surrounded himself with fortune tellers.
He took Mongolia by force.
He believed that he was the incarnate of Genghis Khan, so he launched an era of a frenzied rampage all over Mongolia.
He organized the only pogrom against Jews in Mongolia.
As a result of the massive bloodbath he caused, he is referred to as the ‘Bloody Baron’ or the ‘Mad Baron’.
Why he might not be annoying
He was described as a brave but mentally ill soldier during World War I.
He fought against the Bolsheviks in Russia.
He was betrayed by his own troops when the Bolsheviks invaded Mongolia.
He was deposed and executed by the Bolsheviks.
