    It was the site of the Battle of Brooklyn in the American Revolution (October 1776).
    A Jewish driver's car went out of control, struck and killed an African-American child in Crown Heights, set off a riot ending in the stabbing death of a Jewish student (1991).
    The Brooklyn Dodgers deserted their loyal fans to move to Los Angeles after the 1957 season.
