Religious Figure
    (August 21, 1953- )
Born in Washington, District of Columbia
Birth name was Douglass St. Clair Smith
With Philo Drummond, founded the Church of the SubGenius (1979)
Wrote 'The Book of the SubGenius' (1983), 'High Weirdness by Mail' (1988), 'Three Fisted Tales of 'Bob'' (1990), 'Revelation X: The 'Bob' Apocryphon' (1994) and 'The SubGenius Psychlopaedia of Slack: The Bobliographon' (2006)
    He named his son 'Xandy.'
He was questioned by the Secret Service, who wanted to know how seriously he meant some remarks in Church literature advocating killing Ronald Reagan (1982).
He said, 'There's this stereotype of the typical SubGenius being this pasty, nervous bookworm of some kind. I sort of fit into that description myself.'
He created a 60-second 'Art Break' animated short film for MTV, did the animation for a Devo music video, and narrated the documentary 'Grass.'
After he described the white supremacist Church of the Creator as 'degenerate, inbred, senile hatemongers,' they issued a death threat against him.
He said of the Church of the SubGenius, 'It's a hell of an excuse for pranks against the straight-laced. Our first and only rule is 'Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.' Or in more polite terms, 'Let them mount upon themselves if they cannot see the humor in it.' '
