The Resume

    (January 5, 1948- )
Born in Washington, District of Columbia
    Birth name is Ericka Jenkins
Former leading member of the Black Panther Party
Accused of involvement in the New Haven Black Panther Party's kidnapping and murder of BP informant Alex Rackley (1969)
Charges dropped after the jury deadlocked 10 to 2 in favor of acquittal (May 1971)
Later served as the Director of the Oakland Community School (1973 - 1981)
Has taught at San Francisco State University, California State University (East Bay), and Berkeley City College
    Co-Authored 'Insights & Poems' with Huey P. Newton (1975)

Why she might be annoying:

She was accused of taking part in the torture of Alex Rackley, whom the Panthers suspected of being an informant.
She was also accused of boiling the water used in the torture of Rackley.
She was heard speaking on a tape recording of Rackley's interrogation that was played during the trial.
She and Seale went free after the state failed to sufficiently prove its case against them (the jury deadlocked in favor of acquittal for both and the judge dismissed them of all charges).

Why she might not be annoying:

Her interest in activism began after she took part in the 1963 March on Washington, at age 15.
Her husband, a Vietnam veteran, was killed on a UCLA campus in 1969.
Her husband's death occurred only three months after the birth of her first child.
She has been a proponent of mindfulness techniques in public education for decades.
She was the first black person and the first woman appointed to the Alameda County Board of Education.
She is active with several HIV-AIDS related programs, including the world-renowned Shanti Program.
Hillary Clinton made a name for herself organizing ACLU student protests in support of her and Seale (not defending her in court as is sometimes reported).
