As with Rosie O'Donnell and Kelli Carpenter, their 2004 marriage became void after the overturning of California's Supreme Court decision to allow same-sex marriages.
Martin divorced a man after four years of marriage.
In 1989, they joined the group strangely named Old Lesbians Organizing for Change.

Why they might not be annoying:

They have been recognized as two of the leading pioneers of the gay rights movement.
They started Lyon-Martin Health Services to give lesbians access to medical care and services without judgment by health professionals.
In 1995, they served as delegates for the White House Conference on Aging.
