    He was the only soul act to perform at the legendary Monterey Pop Festival (1967).
    He originally wrote and recorded 'Respect,' which would go on to become Aretha Franklin's signature song.
    He ranked #35 in VH-1's 100 Greatest Artists of Rock and Roll.
