The Resume

Why Survivor 31: Cambodia might be annoying:

Although they let the fans pick the players for this season, most of the people on the ballot surely were bound to come back to the show at some point, anyway.
Producers put on the ballot their own favorite players, and not necessarily ones whose previous game play warranted them a second chance.
They had Kelley Wentworth and Kelly Wiglesworth in the same game!
Terry was forced to quit the game due to a family emergency.
They started the jury earlier than ever before, with the 13th place finisher.
Producers placed Hidden Immunity Idols right inside the challenge arenas, forcing those who found clues to their whereabouts to be sneaky, sneaky.
They had to put up with Ciera complaining about everyone else’s lack of game play.
It was the second Survivor season to film in Cambodia, but the first such one to air, due to all the hype over the Second Chances format.
No one from the Caramoan season participated, nor was anyone from that season even on the ballot for this go-round.
There were no medically-evacuated players on the ballot, either.
Two past players, Mike Holloway and Mama C, were on the ballot even while they were both still in contention for Sole Survivor on Worlds Apart. (Second Chances are for losers!)
Nonetheless, it seemed strange that Mama C did not make the cut.
On the other hand, Holloway easily had enough votes to be a part of this season, but he became ineligible when he won Sole Survivor.
That meant that one of the other players on the ballot got to play this season as an alternate, but Jeff Probst refused to tell us who.
Joe won the first four individual Immunity challenges, yet he twice fell short of matching the record for most individual Immunities in one season (five).
Some challenges were downright dangerous; Joe fainted during a balancing challenge and Tasha nearly drowned during another challenge’s swimming portion.
Jeff Varner was voted out before the jury phase just like he was in his only other season, making him the first player to accomplish this dubious feat without being Phillip Sheppard’s pigeon.
Vytas was absent from the reunion show without explanation (shades of Brandon Hantz).

Why Survivor 31: Cambodia might not be annoying:

For the first time ever, the cast was chosen by a public vote.
The top ten eligible vote getters from each gender were selected for the cast, meaning that 11th place on the male ballot got on in place of Mr. Holloway.
Val and Dale from San Juan del Sur also came back, as loved ones for a reward challenge.
Wiglesworth's return gave her the record for longest gap between Survivor participations, surpassing the record held by her Survivor I tribemate Gervase.
It marked the first brand new Survivor location in six seasons.
Viewers did not have to wait all summer to see who made it into the cast; it was announced right after Worlds Apart ended.
They started out with two tribes, but soon after, they increased it to three during a tribal reshuffle.
Not wanting to leave viewers hanging over what happened to Dietz's son, they ended Episode Six with a happy update: that Danny Dietz is doing well and is up-and-running, thanks to an organ transplant.
At 13 castaways, the merged tribe, Orkun, broke the record for largest tribe ever.
While on the island, Kass made Wentworth a gift for the latter’s 30th birthday. (What did the #dirty30 get Rodney on his damn birthday?)
Wentworth, Andrew, and Kimmi made the jury this time around.
Thanks to an acquired advantage, Stephen was able to steal someone’s ballot and cast two votes at one Tribal Council (the disenfranchised voter was Joe).
It featured the first ever ten-person jury on Survivor.
Because Jeremy played a Hidden Immunity Idol at the right time, he was able to score the third perfect game in Survivor history (see also Tocantins and Caramoan).
Even though the theme was Second Chances, they did not bring back Redemption Island (nor, for that matter, did they revive Exile Island).
