Why he might be annoying:

He earned a medical degree but never practiced as a doctor: 'I realized that I wouldn't get on very well with all those sick people.'
He sported massive sideburns in the 1970s.
He wrote two rulebooks for the fake game Mornington Crescent.
He said his most embarrassing show biz job was writing for the character Mr Blobby: ‘It was done under cover of darkness and handed over in a car park.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He was President of the Cambridge Footlights Dramatic Club (1964).
He got some use from his medical degree when he wrote several episodes of the series 'Doctor in the House.'
His medical training also helped him provide advice to fellow Goodie Bill Oddie during a bout of depression.
He appeared in seven episodes of the medical drama ‘Holby City’ as a surgeon, despite suffering from Bell’s palsy in which the muscles on one side of his face became paralyzed. (He had offered to drop out, but the producers assured him that they could shoot around the problem.)
