The Resume

    (January 12, 1953- )
    Born in Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada
Directed and wrote the films ‘I Shot Andy Warhol’ (1996), ‘American Psycho’ (2000), ‘The Notorious Betty Page’ (2005), ‘The Moth Diaries’ (2011), and ‘Charlie Says’ (2018)
    Daughter of comedian Don Harron

Why she might be annoying:

While at Oxford, she dated future Prime Minister Tony Blair.
She did not start making films until she was in her 40s.
She has decidedly mixed feelings about being called a feminist filmmaker: ‘I feel like it’s marginalizing in a way. Then again, I really dislike it when women reject feminism, that’s ridiculous.’
She said about American Psycho, ‘I always thought that the book was hilarious.’

Why she might not be annoying:

She helped start ‘Punk’ magazine, and was the first journalist to interview the Sex Pistols for an American publication.
She resisted attempts by the producers of ‘American Psycho’ to replace Christian Bale with hot-from-the-success-of-Titanic Leonardo DiCaprio: ‘I told them that was the stupidest thing I’d ever heard. He’s not right for the role.’
She and Bale were let go from ‘American Psycho,’ then brought back when DiCaprio decided to make ‘The Beach’ instead.
She turned down offers to direct ‘big, bland mainstream projects,’ declaring, ‘It’s too hard to make a movie you just don’t care about. It takes years of your life, so you damn well better care about it.’
